Fuel thieves have siphoned hundreds of litres of fuel from a North Wales aggregates haulier.
The thieves stole around 750 litres of diesel from three vehicles at Porthmadog-based OJ Jones & Son on Wednesday night (13 February).
Director Dewi Jones said: “It’s very distressing. The price of fuel goes up, the government puts duty up and in a recession like this you’re going to get more crime as there are not enough police on the streets.”
CCTV footage revealed that thieves broke into the firm’s yard at 10.38pm on Wednesday with an electric pump.
Jones told Commercialmotor.com that there have been four incidents in the area in three weeks, with vehicles run by Gwynedd Council also targeted.
Jones added: “When they do catch these criminals the penalty they get is very lenient. Now there’s extortionate rates, it’s the victims that suffer.”
Police are currently investigating the case and are urging anyone with information to call 101.
OJ Jones & Son has received support from the council to develop a new site with a vehicle testing lane. It is currently awaiting planning permission.

Het aantal gestolen vrachtwagens is in 2012 fors gestegen ten opzichte van 2011. 247 vrachtwagens werden er gestolen, liefst 48 procent meer dan in 2011. Het aantal is echter vergelijkbaar met dat van 2010. Dat meldt Stichting Aanpak Voertuigcriminaliteit (AVc).

Het is dan ook waar dat de stijging in 2012 ‘fors' is, maar je kunt ook zeggen dat het terug is op het normale niveau. AVc zegt nu te gaan onderzoeken wat de reden van de stijging van het aantal vrachtwagendiefstallen. Het gaat vooral om trekkers met en zonder oplegger.
Er werden 2.180 bestelauto's gestolen in 2012 (0,4 procent minder dan in 2011). In het afgelopen jaar werden 262 personenauto's minder gestolen dan in 2011, een daling van 2,2 procent.
